Project Introduction
The Master’s Curriculum Research Project’s topic is: in what ways can a gifted program in a general classroom impact students’ learning motivation? Tingley (N/A) mentioned in her article that gifted students in her classroom usually meant responsibility and they were easier ignored; in fact, gifted students still need attention and challenging work that can help them learning something. Actually, gifted students always finish task faster so that they have more spare time in class, it would be great if the teacher arranges some extra challenging tasks to the student who always finishes task quickly, thus not only enriches the students task time but also raises their learning motivation (Winebrenner, 2017). Teachers and students are not in an equal relationship in my background. I was surprised by using “service” to describe teachers work, however, we prefer to use “give” or “impart” rather than “service” because of the teacher’s high social status in my culture. I think in general classroom, students need the teacher to impart knowledge and gifted students need the teacher to service them to help them explore deeper knowledge. It is really important to consider the needs of gifted students in general classroom, as a teacher, makes students worth their time to learning in your classroom is a great achievement.
This project is tended to use quantitative method to approach the result. I will put gifted program factors in lesson plans and put into practice, the lesson plan considers the individual needs in the whole class rather than gifted students only. The students’ learning motivation will be collected by questionnaire. The anticipated participants are 1st grade students in a Beijing’s urban primary school, the questionnaire will be set to Chinese.
The anticipated results may vary depending on lessons setting. I think most students in the whole class will improve learning motivation after taking lessons with gifted program, what’s more, gifted students will better recognize their abilities and make a good start to improve them.
This project has huge benefits to many types of groups: schools, teacher, students, and parents. Because students' qualities represent the teacher's teaching level and school's academic level, and gifted students have inestimable future that can make great contribution to the family and society.
This Master’s curriculum research project is going to explore the gifted program’s impact in general classroom. It’s obvious that some students have needs for gifted education and teachers have this responsibility to meet their needs. I think both teachers and students will enjoy in the gifted program and they can all learn from it.
