Summary
The Master’s Curriculum Research Project’s topic is: in what ways can a gifted program in a general classroom impact students' learning motivation? Sometimes, gifted students finish tasks faster so that they have more spare time in class. It would be great if the teacher arranges some extra challenging tasks for the students who finish the task quickly, thus not only enriching the students' task time but also raises their learning motivation. It's important to consider the needs of gifted students in a general classroom. Student motivation contains two parts: intrinsic motivation and external motivation. The intrinsic motivation is about personal interests, hobbies, social factors, and self-achievement. There is one more thing that needs to be noticed is less limitation means more creativeness in the classroom. There is a highly recommended suggestion is to extend the extra section as a long-term goal, which not only keeps the student's interest grow but also deeper the knowledge gradually. I put many extra sections into curriculum map and lesson plans, what’s more, problem-solving as the essential factor was put into every lesson plans, benefits all levels of students, the problem generates based on the content and also support the content to better develop and meets students' interests.
This research is intending to use quantitative methods to determine the result. Some gifted program factors are set in lesson plans and put into practice. The lesson plan considers the individual needs in the whole class rather than gifted students. The students' learning motivation will be collected by questionnaires. The anticipated participants are 1st-grade students in a Beijing's urban primary school, the questionnaires will be in Chinese.
The anticipated results may vary depending on lessons setting. It is anticipated that most students in the whole class will improve learning motivation after taking lessons with the gifted program. In addition, gifted students may better recognize their abilities and make a good start to improve them. An oral presentation with a powerpoint will be the method to share findings with audiences.
This project has huge benefits for many types of groups: schools, teacher, students, and parents. Because students' qualities represent the teacher's teaching level and school's academic level, and gifted students have inestimable future that can make a great contribution to the family and society.
This Master’s curriculum research project is going to explore the gifted program’s impact in general classroom. It’s obvious that some students have needs for gifted education and teachers have this responsibility to meet their needs. I think both teachers and students will enjoy the gifted program and they can all learn from it.
